Who is this guy?

Hi, I’m Ian William. I’m a multi-medium artist currently living in Austin, TX.

I’ve been making art my whole life. I studied classical piano for 13 years, taking my experience to college where I studied music production, audio engineering and songwriting. Although music has been with me the longest, along the way I’ve picked up writing, photography, and drawing and am always down to experiment in new mediums.

As with most (if not all) of the artists I’ve met in my life, my art is a way to express my self and articulate emotions. I find it almost impossible sometimes to translate my internal experiences into words that someone else may interpret. I have often been left frustrated after trying to open up to somebody, feeling like our words just can’t begin to describe to each other how we truly feel and see and experience this world. My art serves as a vessel for these feelings and carries them out of me and into the “real world”.

I don’t ever expect or intend for someone to know exactly what my art means. The way I create art is personal to me in the act, but completely all-inclusive in the result. The whole goal for me in creating art is to bypass verbal communication of feelings and emotions and cut straight to the energetic source. The energy I put into a piece means something to me and will mean something entirely new to someone else.

Also, just to clarify, I don’t mean to discount the importance and value of verbal communication. I believe that “talking it out” is extremely beneficial and healing and great. What I mean to say is, beyond the ability to communicate with words, I feel there are other methods that we can employ that will sometimes be a more direct passage straight to the heart of the matter. As powerful as words are, sometimes for me they fall short. Art and creative expression have been such invaluable tools for me as I move through this life and I know many people who feel the same.

I created Sacred Spiral Studios with the idea of fostering a community that can connect through our own individual creative expression. As we grow and change and learn, we can support each other by just being present. This is a place to be present for each other.
