Lena Fine is an indie folk/rock musician based in Philadelphia, PA. Born and raised in northern New Jersey, she began writing music at 14, taking nods and inspiration from the likes of Soccer Mommy, Pinegrove, and Liz Phair. Lena moved to Philadelphia when she was 19 and for the past four years has been steadily sowing seeds and growing musical roots in the Philly DIY scene. Playing in basements all over the city and graduating to bigger venues like World Cafe Live, The Foundry, and Milkboy, Lena has made the city her stage and grown a close community of collaborators and fans. So far, Lena has had the privilege of opening shows for Kate Yeager, Grace Gardner, and Frances Forever on their respective tours.
Lena’s writing comes from a place of hope. While making sense of her life and feelings through music, there is an underlying tone of understanding in her work – every challenge is a lesson, every broken heart is just a strengthening for the next one. Since becoming serious about music in high school, songwriting has become a natural form of expression for Lena. It’s a space for making sense that she feels lucky to occupy.
As first demonstrated by her single, Stucktober, it’s clear Lena is blossoming into her own sound and style. Utilizing live and acoustic instruments Lena creates a sonic atmosphere similar to that of the Weepies or Kate Wolf while her rich, clean vocals come through with the clarity of artists like Tracey Thorn or Joni Mitchell. Lena’s most recent release, Your Clown, is her lament on true tenderness feeling just out of reach. She makes sense of the feelings of being wanted but not in the right way, all set to the score of indie pop with notes of subtle twang. With the singles and her forthcoming album, Lena is building a world that is tenderly introspective and desperately hopeful.
